Coffee liqueur - coffee spirit - coffee stimulant? The ideal has many names. Though, one thing is for sure; it tastes awfully good.
The Wrathful Duck is based on a unique Research Series-whisky from Stauning, which contributes with notes of dark berries, roasted nuts and ripe fruits. These are reinforced by fruity notes from the coffee as well as light and mild acidity from the chocolate.
The Wrathful Duck is the result of a unique collaboration between Abstinens and Stauning Whisky.
Enjoy it straight or with ice
It may sound untraditional to drink coffee liqueur straight, but you would be surprised! The Wrathful Duck doesn't taste like anything you've had before.
The same can be said with pairing it with tonic or sparkling water. Add 4-6 cl Wrathful Duck in a glass filled with ice and top with good tonic or sparkling water. Garnish with a slice of fresh orange peel.
About the Collaboration
Abstinens is the name of the cocktail makers from Aarhus that since 2019 have worked tirelessly to create a better cocktail experience. In collaboration with Stauning Whisky, they wanted to create an exquisite coffee liqeuer with some of the best Danish producers in their industries.
Coffee, whisky, chocolate... These are the base ingredients in The Wrathful Duck.
Aside from the whisky from Stauning, the coffee comes from La Cabra Coffee, which is a modern coffee company established in Aarhus in 2012.
La Cabra started in a store outside the center of Aarhus with a small dedicated team. Providing an extraordinary coffee experience, quickly became an obsession - in a fast growing industry that is slowly expanding across the globe.
Curious about the heritage of the coffee beans, La Cabra seeked out their own beans and started roasting them in their own way back in 2013. Coming from a small town minimized outside influence, which allowed them to develop a new and honest approach to the coffee business. This honesty and dedication has led to a good reputation around Aarhus, where the passionate team behind La Cabra Coffee run 2 coffee shops, a bakery and a roastery.
Their reputation has since spread out to most of Denmark and about 40 other countries, and La Cabra has now grown to be a recognised and highly admired roastery from Denmark.
Friis-Holm Chokolade is built around the idea of creating the best chocolate in the world - both in taste, but also in terms of what best for our globe. Friis-Holm Chokolade is built from quality and ethics with the goal of creating an outstanding culinary quality, but the road to the goal goes through the people that are involved in the process.
Since 2003, Mikkel Friis-Holm have worked in close relation to the cocoa farmers, and he saw a direct link between the production conditions and the quality of the cocoa beans. This is why Friis-Holm Chokolade receives some of the best cocoa from the farmers and partners in Nicaragua. Mikkel Friis-Holm have gained international praise through his work, and for the past 7 years, he has also won at least one award at the International Chocolate Awards.
Friis-Holm Chokolade also deliver their chocolate to highly regarded restaurants such as Henne Kirkeby Kro, Relæ, Alchemist, Jordnær, Allouette, Dragsholm slot and Noma among others.
Abstinens is a cocktail company from Aarhus that was founded in 2019. Their philosophy is to take the cocktail experience to new heights. Other than creating tailor-made cocktail events to both companies and private people, they have worked hard to promote Danish spirits and Danish producers. This has also created a unique partnership with Stauning Whisky - together we explore new and exciting projects.
The Wrathful Duck is the first of several products to come from the partnership called "Abstinens X Stauning Whisky".
The purpose of this collaboration with Stauning Whisky is to introduce great whiskies in other formats. There is no doubt that our products involves whisky, but we will also try to explore other tastes and nuances. The first product in our series is this whisky-based coffee liqueur that we call "The Wrathful Duck". As you can see, we have gathered some of the best raw materials that we could get our hands on, and we will continue to do so in the future.
In the nose, you get a lovely whiff of complex cask notes as well as dark berries, vanilla and intense coffee.
In the mouth, an overwhelming taste of silky smooth coffee, a light acidity and flower taste from the chocolate. Well balanced by the whisky with significant cask notes with nuances of roasted nuts, dark fruits, which ends in a long and formidable finish.
