The local smoke of Denmark’s west coast meets the warmth of the Spanish vineyards. This smoked single malt has been matured in a Moscatel wine cask to explore the elegant interplay between maritime smoke and the floral sweetness of the white wine cask.

Made from 100% locally sourced, floor-malted barley dried in a kiln with Danish peat & heather, and created in a grain-to-glass distillery that honours traditional production methods to develop a spirit with true depth and character.

The whisky was smoked with peat and heather from the surrounding landscape, and since July 2020, the smoked spirit has been drawing character from the Moscatel cask, which over 7 years gradually brings a bright and fruity elegance to the robust smoke.

Stauning Smoke offers notes of campfire, citrus, honey and fragrant herbs. The Moscatel cask adds delicate layers of ripe pear, apricot, jasmine and a honeyed nectar sweetness, rounding out the smoky elements beautifully.

WHAT TO EXPECT

One twenty-fifth share of Cask no. 3825

This 225-litre cask is divided into 25 shares. One cask share yields approximately 11-13 bottles of 70cl whisky. Please note that the final number of bottles may vary due to 'The Devils Cut' and 'The Angels' Share'.

The Devils Cut: How much the cask absorbs - depends on the wood.

The Angels' Share: The evaporation during maturation - depends on the climate/weather/cask.

How it works

Purchase your share
Once your purchase is completed, the cask share is yours.

We send your Owners Certificate
We will issue your Owners Certificate and send it by post. Included in the letter are also two tickets for a guided distillery tour with whisky tasting.

Invitation to Cask Owners Day
Each year, we invite cask owners to our Cask Owners Day in September. As the event approaches, you will receive an email with more information.

Email about bottling day
When the cask is nearing bottling and a date has been set, you will receive an email with details about the bottling day.

Email when your bottles are ready
Once the cask has been bottled, you will receive an email when your bottles are ready for collection.

Collect the bottles at the distillery
Pickup is generally required at the distillery - shipping is not available internationally

What is included

- Two Tickets for a Distillery Tour with Whisky Tasting: An immersive experience to explore the art of Stauning whisky-making.
- Invitation to the Yearly Cask Owners Day: A special event for current and former cask owners to celebrate and enjoy an exclusive experience. Date for next event: 13th of September 2026.
- Bottles will be labelled with the cask number and a sequential bottle number (e.g. Cask No. XXXX, Bottle No. XXX). Bottle numbers are assigned randomly, and specific numbers cannot be requested.
