You’ve tested your taste.

4 general tips:
to make your experience even better

1. Use plenty of ice
Fill the glass right up with ice. The more ice you use, the less it melts.

Melted ice dilutes the gin and flattens the flavour.

2. Serve everything cold
Cold gin and cold tonic taste fresher and less bitter.

If the drink is lukewarm, the bitterness stands out more clearly.

3. Build your G&T
Start with ice. Pour in the gin, then finish with tonic.

Pour the tonic gently down the inside of the glass.

That helps keep the bubbles, giving a lighter and more pleasant taste.

4. Use citrus (not just for garnish)
A piece of lemon peel or orange peel changes the flavour noticeably.

Press a little of the oil from the peel over the glass before dropping it in.

How to drink gin & tonic at its best
— based on your taste

For you, if you are a non-taster

(You tasted very little or nothing at all)

You experience bitterness less strongly than most people.

That means it may suit you to explore ways of bringing the bitterness forward.

Try this:

Use a little more tonic (for example 1 part gin to 3.5 parts tonic)

Choose a classic dry tonic (not too sweet)

Use lemon peel or grapefruit for more freshness

You will get a better experience when the flavour comes through more clearly.

For you, if you are an average taster

(You tasted a little bitterness)

You experience gin the way most people do.

Here, it is mainly about balance.

Try this:

Keep to a classic mix (for example 1 part gin to 3 parts tonic)

Choose a classic tonic

Experiment with garnish: lemon, lime, rosemary or orange

Small changes make a big difference.

For you, if you are a supertaster

(You experienced bitterness clearly)

You are more sensitive to bitterness than most people.

That means both gin and tonic can quickly start to taste too sharp.

Try this:

Use less tonic (for example 1 part gin to 2 parts mixer)

Choose a mild tonic or a slightly sweeter tonic

Experiment with lemon soda or ginger ale

Make sure the drink is ice cold

Use orange or lemon rather than grapefruit
