The cask strength edition of Stauning Rye returns – crafted with 100% malted rye and barley, locally sourced, and distilled in traditional direct-fired copper pot stills. Bottled at full strength, this whisky is a bold tribute to the deep, roasted flavours of Danish rye bread, with layers of dark fruit and warm spice unfolding in every sip. Rich and full-bodied, yet surprisingly nuanced, it’s a whisky that stays rooted in tradition while turning up the intensity.
Stauning’s grain-to-glass philosophy means complete control over every step of the process – from local grain and floor malting to maturation and bottling on-site. It’s a whisky shaped not by shortcuts, but by the raw materials, the West Coast terroir, and the deliberate choices behind every detail.
And yes, due to a bizarre old EU trade agreement, you’ll spot a red sticker where the word “rye” should be. But make no mistake – the whisky inside hasn’t changed one bit.

This Label Was Censored. Seriously.
In a surreal twist, an obscure EU-Canada trade deal from 2004 has made it illegal for European distillers to use the term “rye whisky” – even if, like Stauning, they’ve always made whisky from actual rye. So while the bottle can’t say “rye whisky,” that’s exactly what it is.
To protest this, we’re doing what we do best: bottling the truth. With a sticker slapped across the label, this release puts the spotlight on the absurdity of the rule – and the craftsmanship inside.
