A Stauning favourite returns. Stauning R.Y.E. | Maple Syrup Cask is a limited edition expression of our award-winning Danish rye whisky, matured in heavily charred virgin American oak and finished in casks that previously held maple syrup from Vermont.
The whisky style behind this release first gained recognition when an original single cask was named World’s Best Single Cask in the Single Rye, 12 Years & Under category at the World Whiskies Awards 2023.
This release brings that distinctive whisky profile back. Our locally grown Danish rye and barley is 100% floor-malted at the distillery before being double-distilled in 24 small direct-fired copper pot stills.
The maple syrup cask finish adds warm spice, vanilla, cinnamon, liquorice and charred oak to the spicy character of our R.Y.E. Expect red berries, green apple, citrus, grain and malt, followed by caramelised apple, ripe plum and toasted oak. Velvety sweetness balances the rye spice, with a long, fruity and gently warming finish.
It started as an experiment: finishing our R.Y.E. Whisky in casks that had previously held maple syrup from Vermont. The combination of spicy Danish rye and the rich character left behind in the maple syrup casks created something entirely its own.
One of those original experiments, cask no. 517, went on to be honoured as the World’s Best Single Cask in the Single Rye, 12 Years & Under category at the World Whiskies Awards 2023.
Now, while the exact single cask cannot be recreated, this release marks the return of the whisky style behind it. Our R.Y.E. is once again finished in carefully selected Vermont maple syrup casks, bringing together rich sweetness, warm spice and the distinctive character of Stauning rye.
Made from 10 casks and limited to just 2,500 bottles, this Studio Series release brings a genuine Stauning favourite back to the bottle.

Crafted from Danish West Coast rye and barley, all sourced locally — just a bike ride from our distillery.
AUTHENTIC
Grains are 100% floor-malted and kiln-dried at the distillery, ensuring flavour retention through traditional methods.
COMPLEXITY
The whisky is matured on-site in heavily charred new American Virgin White Oak, then finished in rich maple syrup casks from Vermont.
CHARACTER
Double-distilled in 24 small, direct-fired copper pot stills. Non-chill filtered - residue may appear.
Red berries, green apple, citrus, grain and malt. Warm spice, vanilla, cinnamon, liquorice and charred oak. Caramelised apple, ripe plum and toasted oak, with a long, fruity and gently warming finish.
