Smoked R.Y.E. Meets Dark Beer
Introducing a bold new whisky that pushes boundaries while staying in the realm of grains. Stauning Smoked R.Y.E. | Porter Beer Cask is a limited edition expression where our smoked R.Y.E. whisky meets rich porter beer casks from renowned Danish craft brewery To Øl.
Crafted from 100% floor-malted, locally grown, rye and barley, and double distilled in small direct-fired copper pot stills. Firstly matured in heavy-char virgin American oak before finishing in porter beer casks that adds deep malty notes to this smoked Danish whisky with layers of roasted richness and a creamy mouthfeel that lingers.
Expect notes of vanilla, campfire smoke, toasted rye bread, beeswax, and roasted malt. On the palate, black coffee, ripe cherry, orange peel, chocolate, and golden tobacco arises, which is balanced by the spicy edge of the malty grains and a touch of peat and heather smoke.

It’s no secret that beer and whisky have always made good companions - like a well-paired boilermaker. But while ageing beer in whisky casks is common, turning that idea on its head and finishing whisky in beer casks is still a rarity.
With Smoked R.Y.E. - Porter Beer Cask, we’re doing exactly that at Stauning. Building on what we learned from our cult favourite 'Dirty Bastard', this release explores the unexplored. By staying within the world of grains, we’re able to draw out dark roasted notes like coffee, chocolate, dried fruit, and brown sugar without compromising the whisky’s original character.
What emerges is a robust, full-bodied dram that delivers malt layered on malt, softened by beer’s creamy mouthfeel and sharpened by rye’s spiciness. It’s a whisky that feels familiar and entirely new at once.

LOCAL
Crafted from Danish West Coast rye and barley, all sourced locally — just a bike ride from our distillery.
AUTHENTIC
Grains are 100% floor-malted and kiln-dried at the distillery, smoked using local Danish peat and heather, ensuring flavour retention through traditional methods.
COMPLEXITY
The whisky is matured on-site in heavily charred new American Virgin White Oak, then finished in rich porter beer casks from Danish craft brewery To Øl.
CHARACTER
Double-distilled in 24 small, direct-fired copper pot stills. Non-chill filtered - residue may appear.
