Introducing the whisky before it becomes whisky: Stauning Curious is our new make spirit tapped directly from the pot stills. Wild at heart, charming and captivating. And perfect for creating cocktails with poise and potence.
Curious is the unaged heart of our Stauning rye whisky that has been smoked over peat and heather. It is a rich and smokey new make with a subtle sweetness. Not unlike mezcal and grappa, however with a bit more body and character thanks to the malted rye. To be enjoyed on its own, but can also perform as a refined replacement for vodka, peated whisky, mezcal or white rum in high-end cocktails.
The first release in Stauning Research Series
Research Series is our playground, where we free ourselves from traditions and make room for experiments and innovation.
Curious is what is popularly known as a White Dog or New Make – or simply: raw spirit. It is the whisky before it is put on oak casks to mature.
The artwork for Stauning Curious is made by tattooist, Thit Hansgaard / @thithittattoo.

Sweet candy and smoke
"Gloriously gravelly smoke, with leathery peat and rich earthiness. Very dry, with plimsoll hints developing in the glass. Lighter than expected on the palate, with the plimsoll rubberiness complimented by bitter liquorice pastilles and green leaves. Vegetal, hot and spicy, with capsicum, joined by chilli and black pepper. Excellent young spirit that won’t need to see the inside of a cask for long."
